Platinum Bullion Bars & Coins - Physical Bullion Program Features

Platinum 50 oz Bar

Although Central Banks and institutions traditionally select silver and gold products, platinum has gained greater notoriety in recent years due to its rarity and the high demand for production of high-precision industrial components.

Its name is derived from the Spanish term platina, which is literally translated into "little silver".

Platinum is the least reactive metal. It has remarkable resistance to corrosion, even at high temperatures, and is therefore considered a noble metal.

It is one of the rarest precious metals on Earth and is geographically very selective. Roughly 80% of worldwide production comes from South Africa. Platinum is 10 X more scarce than gold and therefore only a very limited quantity is mined annually.

Platinum is found in a range of products, from catalytic converters and electrical contacts to dental equipment and jewellery to the most advanced equipment for space exploration.

50 ounce platinum comes in a bar or plate format and conforms to the LPPM (London/ Zurich) and COMEX good delivery standards for weight and purity. Each bar or plate is stamped with the date of fabrication
, gross weight, purity at 9995 and the refiner's stamp.

New in 2015, replacing the bullion finish on earlier coins, the radial lines in the new 2015 PML's field have been precisely machined to within microns on the master tooling to ensure reproducibility from die to die and coin to coin.
Laser Tooling Inspection

The uniqueness of the line width and pitch gives this coin a characteristic look, and creates a light diffracting pattern that is specific to this coin.

In 2015, the Mint introduced a new and unique Security Feature to confirm the authenticity of its PML coins.  The PML Security Feature consists of a textured maple leaf, micro-engraved with laser technology on a small area of the reverse side (Maple Leaf side) of the coin. In the centre of this mark, visible under magnification, is laser engraved numeral denoting the coin’s year of issue (15).

Coin verification is provided by a remote RCM laser coin reader that verifies directly with the main RCM registry and confirms coin authenticity within seconds.
